Warwickshire County Athletics Association

ŇThe BearÓ – Oct/Nov 2006

Issue 7/06

1               CONGRATULATIONS

-        To Bill ADCOCKS, Coventry Godiva Harriers Secretary, on his election to the UKA Members Council (Clubs Rep). Bill is very approachable and we believe that he will serve us and the sport well.

-        And to Dave MOORCROFT, winner of this yearŐs Ron Pickering Memorial Award for services to Athletics. This is a Warwickshire hat trick following Tom McCOOK (Birchfield) the 2004 recipient and Bill ADCOCKS in 2005.

LetŐs have a good attendance at the AssociationŐs AGM on Wednesday 29th November starting at 7.30 in the Coventry Godiva HQ. The Officers hope to bring you up to date with changes affecting Permits, Levies and Road and Cross Country Officials Licences. The Officers are also considering limiting their length of tenure. Propositions and nominations for office should be sent to the Secretary, Stewart HARRIS.

3               OFFICIALS COURSE – LEVEL 2

We have had a good response so far to the Level 2 Officials Course which will be on 5th November at Exhall Grange School.

It is not too late to join them É. Call Margery EWINGTON on 02476 314990

4               DEVELOPMENT GROUPS

There were two well attended and informative Development Group sessions in October at Coventry (Greater Warwickshire Group) and Alexander Stadium (Birmingham Group). The Coventry meeting covered Clubs/Schools links, how to recruit volunteers and Sportshall. The next sessions will be in January 2007. Make sure your Club/Group is involved.

For those of you who now get electronic copies of the Bear, the prospectus and entry forms are available on the County Web site – go to www.warwickshirecountyaa.co.uk. Otherwise paper copies are enclosed for you to copy and distribute around your Club. Note the changes for the U/20 Men, the Seniors and Veterans. Please make sure your entry comes in EARLY.

8               JACK HYDE

Sad to report that Jack HYDE (Sparkhill Harriers) recently passed away, aged 93. Those associated with the County AA and with Officiating will remember JackŐs extraordinarily long service as a Starter.
